"Precious in the site of the Lord is the death of His godly ones" (Psalm 116:15).
Alex was a dear brother in Christ Jesus who influenced and encouraged many in their walk with the Lord. Share your praises with us ...

It was a joy to have Alex in our Flock group a couple of years ago. His enthusiasm and love for God, His Word and fellow believers was a blessing to have experienced. Alex blessed us with his music and sharing scripture from the pulpit.
The love and friendship Alex and Carrie shared was an inspiration.
I will always remember his speaking Sunday about citizenship here and in heaven, knowing someday we will join him again.
When we moved to Missouri this past year, it was a joy to be embraced by the people of New Community Church. Alex and Carrie were very quick to make our acquaintance and make us feel like instant family. What a joy to be able to claim a relationship to this dear man through the blood of Jesus Christ. Alex was our brother and we loved him dearly.
The joy of the Lord was always evident in his life and on his face. He displayed a special enthusiasm in his devotion to God through Scripture reading and Christian music.
Scott and I both were also immediately struck by the significance of Alex's last Scripture reading on Sunday being on the subject of heavenly citizenship. What a joy to know that we will see him again when we go home to claim our own citizenship in heaven.
Alex will be truly missed by the whole church family - as he was such an integral part of our body of believers. Praise God he is no longer encumbered by the bonds of earth, and can joyfully worship on a higher plain in God's own presence.
In Christ's Love,
Scott and Betty Walton
Carrie,
Ger and I have thought about you and Alex often since we left for Ukraine on Tuesday. Even though we're far away, our hearts are with you and the rest of the family. We trust you are having a blessed time of remembrance of all the ways that the Lord has blessed you through this godly man. Though I know your hearts are broken, I'm sure you are celebrating as well, in the sure knowledge that Alex is more than likely dancing a Scottish jig such as he has never danced before. His work is done, and he is enjoying the presence of his Lord. In total honesty, I am torn between sadness...and envy.
I'm afraid Ger and I must miss the memorial service, as we won't be returning home for some weeks. Maddie will be there, representing us. She'll be looking for you, to give you the embraces that we wish we could give you in person.
Rest in His Peace and Hope,
All our love and prayers,
Bruce and Geralyn
I don't think there was ever a time when Uncle Alex didn't have a smile on his face! He came to all my birthday parties and helped coach my soccer team. He was a very big part of my life and I will miss him.
What a blessing to our lives to know Alex for the time we have been at NCC. We had the opportunity to spend time with both Alex and Carrie at several church functions, and we have been so blessed by that fellowship. Whenever our placecards at the meal directed us to a table with Alex & Carrie, we somehow felt comforted, and certainly at home with family.
Alex brought such joy to my life, and a small connection to my own Scottish heritage, a country I'd love to visit some day, to understand more of my history and to remember the incredible man who welcomed us to our new church with joy and enthusiasm.
I'll never forget one of our first Sundays at NCC - as I listened to the man with the beautiful accent ask us to turn to "Sam 1" and I frantically checked both Bible translations we had brought to find the words that matched what he was reading. Nothing in I Samuel matched what he was reading. So, I just listened. It sounded similar to Psalms Chapter 1, but I was sure he was referring to First Samuel!!!
Later, someone explained to me that he was speaking Scottish!! (It makes English sound so much more dignified!!)
Last Sunday, I was blessed by getting a hug from him. He said he wouldn't miss our church musical "for the world." Alex, I'm glad you missed it for eternity! I will always remember his beautiful plaid tie. It was the last conversation I had with him. I will forever remember the happiness and pure joy Alex brought to every conversation we shared.
I will always remember the joy, the laughter, the devotion to our Lord and Savior. His music always touched my heart in ways that I can't explain in words, but my heart is closer to the Lord thanks in part to Alex. His witness and faith in our Sovereign Creator has touched my whole family's lives.
When he spoke Sunday of heavenly citizenship, I thought of the peace and comfort we will find in the presence of the Lord. How we will all no longer be alien, but will be of one family. I miss Alex terribly, as do my children. However, our grief will be brief - for we live on with the hope that Alex often spoke of. I look forward to the time we will all be reunited in the presence of our Father, to worship and praise Him for eternity.
Thank you Carrie, Mark, Alastair, and the rest of your family, for your inspiration, your faith, your hope, your witness to the incredible grace and mercy of our God and Father. And thank you for sharing Alex's life here on earth with us. May God grant you the peace that passes all understanding as you grieve the ending of an earthly life, and as you rejoice in the beginning of Alex's time with his dear Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our family was constantly ministered to by the Scripture Readings that Alex did on Sundays at church.
Dr. Steve Lawson once said that it is the only perfect part of any church service, because it is the only perfect word spoken. We were so blessed that Alex ministered to us in this way.
We miss Alex, but we look forward to the day when we will see him and join him in praising our Lord.

On the eve of a great battle against the English, who were trying to suppress the Reformation in Scotland, the famous Scots preacher Richard Cameron prayed that God would, "take the ripe and leave the green". He was asking that those who had not yet trusted in Christ as Lord be given more time, but that those who had received salvation through Jesus Christ would be brought home to God. As I was reading that passage after Alex's death, I realized how profoundly God had worked in Alex's life over the years. Just talking with Alex, you could tell that he was a saint who was firm in his faith, who loved God, God's people, and God's Word. It was great to see the pure joy for life that such an assurance gave to Alex; when he belted out a tune on the bodhran or guitar, he looked like a kid with a toy! In God's perfect knowledge, He chose to bring home this brother who had fought the good fight and overcome.
We pray for Carrie, Mark and Alastair. Their witness of expectant certainty in the hope of Jesus Christ is like a light to those around them. We'll pray that God continues to grant them comfort during this time.
The Steele Family
When I called my son, Josh, about Alex, his first comment was how much he appreciated Alex's reverence for the Word of God. I couldn't agree more. When he would say, "Please stand in honor of the reading of God's word...", I was always moved. His voice was majestic, but more importantly, we knew he truly believed that what he was reading was God-breathed. Now he is in the presence of the author of the Book he so loved. I envy him.
Just thinking of Alex brings a smile to our faces. We can't think of a moment when there wasn't joy in his voice or on his face.........it was something to which we looked forward.
Our Church services won't be the same without him but we take comfort in knowing that he is safe in the arms of Our Lord and that we will see him again in Glory.
May God grant peace and comfort to Carrie and the family.
Our paths have crossed for several years at various Scottish gatherings and it was always a delight to see Alex and his smiling face. It was a real shock when we googled the website of Alex and Carrie and discovered the news. Carrie, our prayers are with you. The Scotish community has lost a wonderful friend and we will miss him. We will deeply miss Alex’s rolling “r”s and the comfort of his voice as he read the Scriptures to us on Sunday mornings. We will miss how his music ministered to our souls. Although we did not know him well, and you, you both have made a significant impact on us through your service in our worship.
